Presentation by Alessandro Marangoni of the Althesys study.
Decarbonization and competitiveness, from European policies to Italian industry.
Strategies for a sustainable energy transition aimed at growth.”

How to respond to the climate emergency and achieve decarbonization while supporting economic growth?
What does the new European guidance introduced with the Clean Industry Package mean for Italy?
How can the energy transition foster economic growth and social stability?

Sono queste alcune delle domande alle quali si vuole rispondere, partendo dall’analisi dell’industria europea e italiana, dalla sua competitività e capacità di innovazione.

The purpose of the study is to analyze the role of industrial supply chains in the energy transition in Europe and Italy, assessing how they can contribute not only to decarbonizing the economic system, but also to strengthening its competitiveness in international markets.

Although Italy is not a leader in the manufacturing of basic technologies for the transition, its presence in value chains is significant, thanks to its competitiveness in components and in specific market segments.

Italy’s industrial structure, as is well known, is characterized by small and medium-sized companies, which limits the economies of scale and investment capacity needed to emerge in the most innovative and capital intensive sectors.

The report explores the challenges stemming from a “slow” economy, delays in digital and research, and the absence of a coherent industrial policy that knows how to exploit and expand existing skills.

The study highlights the conditions needed to develop a robust and competitive national supply chain, the regulatory, industrial and fiscal measures that can create an environment conducive to innovation and growth.
Ultimately, it aims to outline a national strategy that, by focusing on digitization, bureaucratization and support for innovation, will enable Italy to reduce the gap with leading countries, taking full advantage of the opportunities of the energy transition.
